Swain's Electric, Inc. was established in 2001 by founder Benson Swain. He gained his electrician certification while serving in the US Navy. He then worked as a journeyman electrician for several years before becoming an electrical contractor and starting his own business.

In 2014 Benson and his wife, Katie, decided to expand the business to include a lighting store that could provide lighting solutions for commercial and residential buildings, both for general contractors and home owners.

The lighting showroom has also come to include many home décor, handmade, and vintage items with an ever-changing and unique inventory available.
